How it all began ✦

From student
to Coach Divine.

I was a university student who could barely afford data subscriptions. I had no laptop, no connections, no mentor — just a burning question: how do people actually make money online?

2021 — The beginning

Stumbled onto affiliate marketing.

I was scrolling through Twitter during a lecture when someone mentioned earning commissions by recommending products. I had zero idea what that meant, but I saved the tweet. That single tweet changed everything. I spent the next week reading everything I could find about affiliate programs — all on my phone, between classes.

2021 — First attempt

Created a free blog with zero skills.

I signed up for Blogger because it was free. I wrote my first post about a study app I personally used. It was rough — no images, no formatting, no strategy. I shared it in a WhatsApp group and got 3 clicks. Zero commissions. But something clicked in my mind: people actually read what I wrote.

2022 — The struggle

Three months, zero naira earned.

I published 12 posts and earned exactly nothing. My friends thought I was wasting time. I almost quit after a classmate laughed at the idea of making money from a blog. But I noticed one thing: a single post was getting search traffic. That tiny signal kept me going.

2022 — The breakthrough

My first commission: $2.47.

I woke up to an email saying I earned $2.47 from a product review I wrote two months earlier. I stared at my phone for ten minutes. It was not life-changing money — but it was proof. Proof that this thing works. Proof that my words could generate income while I slept. I have never looked back since.

2023 — Growth

Built a system, not just a blog.

I stopped writing random posts and started building a real system: keyword research, content clusters, email capture, product selection. My income went from occasional commissions to consistent monthly earnings. I was still a student, but I was earning more than some graduates around me.

2024 — Coach Divine is born

Started teaching what I learned.

People started asking me how I did it. I realized the lessons I learned the hard way could save someone else months of frustration. I created Coach Divine as a place to share honest, practical affiliate marketing guidance — no hype, no shortcuts, just what actually works. Because I remember what it felt like to start with nothing.

The field notes.

Every lesson came from real experience — the failures, the small wins and the things I wish someone told me earlier.

Origin Story Sep 2026

How I discovered affiliate marketing on a student budget.

I was sitting in a 200-level lecture, scrolling Twitter on cheap data, when I first read about earning commissions from product recommendations. I had no laptop, no money for courses, no mentor. But I had curiosity and campus Wi-Fi. That week, I read everything free I could find. This is the exact story of those first uncertain days — and how a single tweet changed the direction of my life.

Origin Story Sep 2026

My very first blog post (it was terrible).

I signed up for Blogger because it was the only free option I knew. My first post was a 300-word review of a study app I used — no images, no strategy, no SEO. I shared it in a class WhatsApp group and got 3 clicks and zero commissions. But something shifted: people actually read what I wrote. That tiny spark was enough to keep me going for months.

Mindset Aug 2026

Three months with zero earnings — and why I did not quit.

I published 12 posts and made exactly zero naira. My classmates thought I was chasing shadows. One even laughed at the idea of earning money from a blog. But I noticed one thing nobody else saw: a single post was quietly getting search traffic. That invisible signal told me the system works — I just had not figured it out yet. Here is how I pushed through the darkest stretch.

Origin Story Aug 2026

The morning I woke up to my first $2.47 commission.

I checked my email before brushing my teeth and saw it: a commission notification for $2.47. From a review I wrote two months earlier. While I slept, someone clicked my link and bought something. I stared at my phone for ten minutes. It was not life-changing money — but it was proof. Proof that words could earn while I slept. That feeling changed everything about how I saw what was possible.

Affiliate Jul 2026

How to choose products worth promoting (what I learned the hard way).

My early mistake was promoting anything that paid a commission — regardless of quality. I recommended a hosting service I never used and felt terrible when someone bought through my link. That day I made a rule I still follow: never promote anything you have not personally used or thoroughly researched. Trust is cheaper to protect than to rebuild.

Content Jul 2026

How I learned to write content that earns before it asks.

My first 12 posts were basically product pitches with affiliate links stuffed in. Nobody bought because nobody trusted me yet. When I switched to writing genuinely useful content — tutorials, comparisons, honest pros-and-cons — the clicks started coming naturally. People do not click your links when you sound like a billboard. They click when you sound like a friend who actually tried the thing.

Strategy Jun 2026

From random posts to a real system: the shift that changed my income.

For months I published randomly — whatever came to mind. Then I discovered keyword research and content clusters. I started mapping topics together instead of writing one-off posts. Within weeks, my search traffic tripled. The lesson was simple: stop creating isolated content and start building connected systems. That is when a blog becomes a business.

SEO Jun 2026

SEO for affiliate sites: what I learned without a laptop.

I did my first keyword research on a phone using free tools — Google autosuggest, AnswerThePublic and People Also Ask boxes. I could not afford Ahrefs or SEMrush. But I learned that you do not need expensive tools to find good keywords. You need to understand what real people are typing into Google. Here is my non-technical SEO method that still works today.

Mindset May 2026

Building trust before asking for the sale (the lesson that cost me months).

I lost months of potential income because I was too eager to sell. Every post ended with a push to buy something. People could smell the desperation. When I started giving value first — real answers, honest reviews, free guides — the sales followed naturally. The affiliate game is a trust game. You earn trust before you use it. That realization changed everything.

Tools May 2026

5 free tools that kept my affiliate business alive as a student.

When I started, I could not afford a single paid tool. Blogger was my website, Canva free tier was my design tool, Google Docs was my editor and my phone was my office. Here are the 5 free tools I relied on — and how each one solved a real problem when I had zero budget to work with.

Strategy Apr 2026

Why most affiliate sites fail — and the one shift that saved mine.

I almost became a statistic. Most affiliate blogs fail because they chase commissions instead of solving problems. The day I stopped asking "what pays the most?" and started asking "what does my audience actually need?" was the day everything shifted. Your audience is not a revenue source. They are real people with real problems. Solve those and the income follows.
